Michael Portillo explores a classified Cold War facility located just a short distance from the Cambridge university he once attended. Constructed in 1953, the bunker, known as RSG-4, was designed to shelter 300 local government leaders from Cambridgeshire during a nuclear crisis. Additionally, the former politician is granted a rare glimpse of the retired Soviet submarine U-475 Black Widow, now docked at Strood on the River Medway, shedding light on the narrow escape humanity had from a catastrophic nuclear conflict.
