In the summer of 1939, with war looming and officially declared in September, Edward, a notorious philanderer, comes home accompanied by his dazzling mistress. Meanwhile, Villy is taken aback by the revelation of her pregnancy and decides to take bold measures. At the same time, Zoe makes her way back to London to care for her ill mother, where she begins to develop a romantic connection with a doctor.
