Part Four: Fall (S01E04)

S01E04

Just days after political protests result in the tragic loss of numerous students, the Summer Olympics kick off in Mexico City. In front of a global audience, two American sprinters make a statement during the national anthem on the medal podium. As the presidential race heats up, President Johnson decides to pause the bombing in North Vietnam, a strategic move to bolster Humphrey's campaign. Richard Nixon works to undermine the peace negotiations, while independent candidate George Wallace's unexpected rise threatens to send the election to the House of Representatives. On Election Day, the results are so close that a winner isn't announced until the next morning, marking a potential historic comeback. Meanwhile, Elvis Presley takes to television for his own resurgence. The widows of Senator Robert Kennedy and Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. reflect on the tumultuous year. On Christmas Eve, Apollo 8 orbits the dark side of the moon and shares live images of Earth for the first time.
