After his medical discharge, he dedicated himself to sharing his story and supporting others in his community. Together with his wife, Peggy, they are cherished figures in their tight-knit neighborhood. However, Gene faced numerous challenges to secure a handicapped-accessible van, which finally granted him the independence to drive again.
