Hard-Gating (S05E01)

Deed interrogates a difficult prison officer regarding the murder of Paul Settle, a young inmate who was fatally stabbed and partially consumed by his cellmate, Ben Bradwell, just days before his release. The Judge expresses concern over the racial dynamics, as Settle was Black and Bradwell has a history of extreme racism. In a separate case, Deed proposes a compassionate sentence for a drunk driver responsible for a child's death. At the same time, Deed and Jo appear to be drifting further apart in their relationship.
