Kim finds herself struggling academically and decides to hire a tutor to help her get back on track. To her surprise, her tutor turns out to be Alan, a former speed-dating match. Determined to impress him, she tries to win his affection despite his lack of interest. Meanwhile, Professor Oglevee faces tough decisions due to budget cuts and ends up losing his job after pleading with the dean. In his despair, Stanley pretends he was promoted to a position at USC. To celebrate this false milestone, Woody takes him out for drinks, but Stanley ends up quite intoxicated. Nikki steps in to help and later visits Stanley's apartment, where he confesses the truth about his job loss. In a moment of vulnerability, they share an unexpected kiss.
