The Sun is colossal—so immense that it could contain approximately 1.3 million Earths within its vast interior. Located about 150 million kilometers (93 million miles) away, its influence reaches our planet in profound ways. Nearly all the energy we harness, whether to illuminate a room, propel a soccer ball, or power our gadgets, originates from the Sun. While some energy is produced by nuclear reactions in Earth's core, it's insignificant compared to the nuclear fusion occurring in the Sun. Without it, Earth would be a barren rock. Composed of gas, the Sun's intense gravity compresses atoms into a hot plasma, leading to continuous collisions that create new elements and release immense energy—a process known as nuclear fusion.
