Resistance is a force that hinders motion and transforms kinetic energy into thermal energy. For instance, when your bike tires meet the pavement, the resistance between them decreases your speed. Additionally, there is resistance found in the metal components of the wheel's hub at the center. The interaction between the tire’s rubber and fibers also generates resistance as they bend and rotate. This is why your bike comes to a halt when you stop pedaling. Surfaces that are rough produce greater resistance compared to smoother ones, like rubber sneakers on a polished basketball court versus metal skate blades on ice.
