In the first part of this two-part tale, Lt. Gerard and his wife embark on a long-overdue getaway. However, when duty calls, Gerard hastily departs, leaving an upset Mrs. Gerard to board a bus out of town. Unbeknownst to her, Dr. Kimble is also a passenger. After the bus is involved in an accident, Kimble aids her in escaping the wreckage. Suffering from a head injury, she is temporarily blind and cannot recognize him. As they journey towards a phone for her to reach her husband, she begins to ask questions about Kimble, slowly piecing together his identity. Will she uncover the truth before they arrive?
