In a London eatery, Erskine-Brown is presented with a live mouse, leading to Rumpole stepping in to defend the pompous chef-restaurateur against ensuing environmental health allegations. Meanwhile, at home, Hilda becomes infatuated with her Canadian cousin, Jean-Pierre O'Higgins, leaving Rumpole feeling neglected and sidelined.
