In the opening half-hour, Doug becomes convinced that his new dentist, who had a crush on Carrie in the past, is intentionally inflicting pain on him. The second storyline, celebrating the show's 100th episode, centers around Arthur, Carrie's father. When his unpredictable antics spiral out of hand, Doug and Carrie urge him to seek help from a psychiatrist. During the therapy session, Arthur recalls a troubling memory of a confrontation with his own difficult father, which may shed light on the origins of his abrasive demeanor.
