Meanwhile, Father Cassidy learns of Meg's intention to incorporate an anti-Vietnam theme into the play and prohibits her from proceeding with it as planned. Jack is approached by the pastor regarding the inclusion of a person of color on the police commission. Luke returns to Philadelphia with surprising news for Roxanne. Meanwhile, Melanie grows increasingly envious of the bond forming between Sam and Meg. In a last-minute decision, Meg resolves to stage the play exactly as she originally envisioned.
