Meanwhile, Maxine seeks help from a former client to support a devoted foster mother battling illness. Bruce becomes irritable when Amy's unrequested advice about his disputes with Mia regarding their living situation strikes a nerve. Gillian finds herself pushing back against Matthew's advances. In a twist, fresh evidence and a new witness compel Amy to grant Danny Hawkins a retrial, leading to tension with David, who is reluctant to pass the case to another prosecutor.
