Downhill All the Way (S07E08)

A young boy becomes an unintended witness to a crime, but his mental condition complicates his ability to provide reliable testimony. When an assassination attempt is made on him while under the Chief's protection, a ruse is devised: they announce the boy's death and claim the Chief has retired out of guilt. With a fabricated story about having new evidence, the Chief lays in wait for the culprits to strike again, rejecting his friends' attempts to assist. His façade of spiraling into alcoholism and despair puts him in grave danger, as he risks it all to lure the criminals out.
