As Monkey, Pigsy, Sandy, and Tripitaka journey toward the palace in The Land of Search for Understanding, the king demands to interview every pilgrim who arrives. After a heated dispute, Monkey decides to remain behind and is soon rendered invisible by a wicked magician. Disguised as a Taoist priest, the magician tricks the gullible king into organizing a contest between himself and an unwilling Tripitaka to prove whether Taoism or Buddhism reigns supreme. With ambitions to seize control of the kingdom, will his sinister plot come to fruition?
