Monica and Andrew are organizing a surprise party for Tess to express their gratitude. However, a new angel named Ronald from Records and Permanent Files arrives, eager to meet Tess. The trouble is, Tess is running late, and Mr. Nalls, the hotel's banquet manager, is urging them to hurry up for the Chamber of Commerce event at five. Meanwhile, Tess, thinking Monica is in trouble, faces car issues and stops at a diner and repair shop. There, an unhelpful cashier named Kelly informs her that she must wait for Penny to return from a tow. Back at the banquet, Ronald shares with Monica and Andrew his dreams of directly helping others, admitting he doubts his abilities as a caseworker. As the clock strikes five, Tess remains absent.
