Marking half a century since the expulsion of South Asians from Uganda, BBC reporter Reha Kansara accompanies her mother and aunt on their first return to the country. In 1972, Idi Amin labeled Ugandan Asians as enemies, implementing a harsh decree that forced them to vacate within 90 days. Around 70,000 South Asians fled Uganda fearing for their safety. As they embark on their journey from suburban England, Reha and her family revisit the Kakira sugar plantations and their former home in Jinja, reconnecting with old friends and uncovering the lasting impact of their expulsion on the nation they once called home.
