In July 2022, Hamid Nouri, a former Iranian official, was found guilty by a Swedish court of murder and war crimes, resulting in a life sentence. His crimes date back to 1988 in Iran’s prisons, where around 5,000 political prisoners lost their lives. This verdict marked an important milestone for survivors and the families of the deceased in their ongoing pursuit of justice. Omid Montazeri from BBC Persian, whose father was a victim of the massacres due to his communist beliefs, covers the trial for Our World, revealing how this perpetrator was finally brought to justice.
