Alex catches a glimpse of Mallory and Nick sneaking out of the Keaton home early in the morning, realizing they plan to elope. Unable to intervene in time, he chases after them to New Jersey, where he discovers the couple reconsidering their hasty choice. Amidst Nick's awkward antics with a 16-foot ladder outside the house, Alex makes a frantic effort to dissuade Mallory from marrying him. However, their love proves too strong to sway them. It ultimately takes Erin and Mike, another couple, to help the young lovers reflect on their readiness for such a big step.
