After school, Jennifer feels disheartened to discover that her choice for the book report, "Huckleberry Finn," has been banned by the school board. Her favorite teacher, Mr. Flaherty, expresses his disagreement with the ban but explains that he has to follow the board's decision. Undeterred, Jennifer decides to present her report anyway, reading it aloud in class. This leads Flaherty to call in the principal, who takes away her paper. Later, Flaherty meets with Jennifer and her family, expressing admiration for her bravery but regrettably informing her that she will fail the assignment and may face suspension from school.
