As Jennifer braces herself for a confrontation with school officials, Steven and Elyse rally to support her against the school board's decision to ban certain books. Surprisingly, even Mallory joins the fight, expressing her newfound affection for the controversial "Huckleberry Finn," which she eagerly reads to Nick. However, the meeting with Dr. Hewitt, the school principal, the head of the school board, and Jennifer's English teacher, Mr. Flaherty, yields no resolutions. The Keatons stand firm against the new policy, leaving Jennifer disheartened when she realizes that Flaherty, whom she holds in high regard, won’t challenge Hewitt or the board, despite his claims of support.
