Blanche is preoccupied with a date while her uncle, Lucas Hollingsworth, is in town. To avoid his company, she tells Dorothy he is eager to meet a woman of her intellect. Dorothy agrees to the setup, but both women soon discover Blanche's deception and plot their revenge by pretending they're engaged, much to Blanche's irritation. Meanwhile, Rose contemplates moving in with her daughter Kirsten, hoping to become the "Sophia" of her own household, as Blanche reconciles with the engagement ruse. Just when Lucas is about to share a secret, he unexpectedly proposes to Dorothy for real.
