In this gripping episode, Maggie's assignment on the lives of vineyard workers takes a dark turn when she uncovers a disturbing case of extortion affecting Falcon Crest employees. As Chase notices a sudden drop in his undocumented workers, he encourages Maggie to investigate further. She discovers that a blackmailer is threatening the workers with deportation. Ignoring Angela's warnings, Chase steps in to confront the extortionist. Meanwhile, Emma learns she is pregnant, which alarms Lance, fearing yet another rival for the Falcon Crest inheritance. Tragically, Emma falls down a staircase, resulting in a miscarriage.
