Juan Diaz, destitute and terminally ill, yearns to ensure his family’s financial stability before he passes. A year later, a gravedigger named Alejandro digs up Juan’s body to create space in the cemetery. He then mummifies Juan and places him in a crypt alongside other mummies. Juan’s wife, Maria, learns of Alejandro’s scheme and takes matters into her own hands by stealing her husband’s body. She displays it in their home, claiming it’s an authentic Mexican mummy to attract tourists. The income helps support Maria and her three children, but she eventually grapples with the macabre nature of her actions. In her plea for forgiveness, she notices a glimmer in Juan's eye, signaling his approval of her desperate measures.
