After an archaeological team stumbles upon a strange burial urn, a young student who opens it falls into a fit. Although she quickly recovers, Professor Hamilton, the head of the team, fears she may have contracted a disease from the skeletal remains, convinced that the ominous inscription warns of a demon trapped inside. The following day, Roxton and Marguerite find the camp in chaos, with only Hamilton and his rival, Professor Campbell, left standing. In a charged confrontation, both men accuse one another of being possessed by the demon. Roxton and Marguerite's attempts to mediate only deepen the suspicion, leading to fears that the demon may have transferred into one of the professors.
