When a police officer's wife accuses him of rape, Benson and Stabler take him into custody, but their beliefs waver after he assaults his captain. The situation escalates when another officer kills his wife and then tries to take his own life that same night. As the entire department gets involved, they discover both men had recently returned from Afghanistan, where they were treated with an anti-malarial drug called Quinium. With the hesitant assistance of journalist Sherm Hempell and a guilty military doctor, Novak decides to confront the U.S. Army. Meanwhile, Stabler struggles with the case due to his own military background.
