Granny decides to enter a soup contest under Elly's name and unexpectedly wins. Her goal is to boost Elly's visibility to help her find a husband. Jed disapproves, believing Granny's actions are dishonest. To carry on with her plans, Granny sends Jed away and invites representatives from the advertising agency and soup company to finalize the deal, but they insist on waiting for Jed's return. When Miss Hathaway and Mr. Drysdale show up, Miss Hathaway dons Jed's clothes and signs the papers as J.D. Clampett. Ultimately, Granny appears in the commercial, claiming she made the soup, but cleverly ensures Elly gets some airtime too.
