Kate envisions a future with Steve as her son-in-law but worries about the risks associated with his career as a pilot. Discovering his background in journalism, she persuades Sam to hand over the Hooterville World Guardian to Steve. With the lack of crop dusting jobs in the area, Steve agrees to take the position. However, Uncle Joe, who runs the Carson-Elliott crop dusting business, is not pleased. Determined to regain clients, he resorts to creating artificial bugs to attract business. When Kate uncovers his scheme, she confronts Joe, but ultimately, Steve finds success.
