Whitley feels a wave of anxiety as her mother, Marion, prepares to visit, fixated on the idea of marrying off her daughter. Marion disapproves of Whitley's focus on her studies and career prospects over finding a partner. Just when Whitley feels overwhelmed, she receives a call from a charming childhood friend now in medical school. To her dismay, she discovers her mother has given him her number and suggested he pursue her. In a fit of frustration, Whitley leaves an important event, later confronting Marion about her meddling. Yet, Marion fails to see the issue. Meanwhile, Freddie enthusiastically launches a new recycling initiative on campus.
