Grace is stressed as she struggles to complete her paper on "The Grapes of Wrath," constantly reminding Quentin about his own book report deadline. When her classmate Martha mentions she's looking for an apartment, Grace eagerly offers her a room. Martha moves in with her parrot, Ignatius, and quickly wins over Libby and Quentin, even impressing Jean. However, Wade recognizes Martha from his patrols at a strip club, revealing her as a stripper. Despite this, Grace respects Martha’s pursuit of education. When Mrs. Sheffield informs Grace that Quentin received a C+ on his report, Grace confronts him about plagiarizing her work. Martha’s sudden departure back to St. Louis without a word leaves Grace feeling betrayed.
