After being expelled from Billings, Montana by the sheriff, Lily Merrill takes charge of the Bird Cage Saloon. When Dan learns about her alleged involvement in a theft and murder, she mistakenly thinks he’s seeking a bribe. Naturally, Dan declines any money, and both are taken aback by their misconceptions, though Dan remains wary. Trouble arises again due to one of her associates, casting suspicion on her. Dan makes several unusual errors in judgment regarding her innocence, but by the end, they come to a mutual respect that solidifies their connection.
