Alec wins a seat on the school board, prompting Hetty to resign as Avonlea's schoolmistress due to feeling unjustly criticized. Her replacement, Alistair Dimple, is a struggling actor who masquerades as a teacher. Using role-playing to engage the students, Alistair ignites Hetty's passion for writing, inspiring her to pen a book about the island. Although Alec discovers Alistair's true identity, he chooses to remain silent as Avonlea prepares to compete against their rivals from Carmody for the History Championship.
