Annie is taken by surprise when her mother shows up unannounced and moves in with her, causing Annie increasing frustration as her mother stays tight-lipped about the reason for her visit. Later, she reveals to Caroline that she has left Annie's father. In response, Annie confronts her dad, who admits that this isn't just a typical argument; he has fallen in love for the first time with someone else. Meanwhile, Richard takes a temporary gig as a gift wrapper at Macy's, but his poor attitude leads to him being reassigned to work as an elf. Additionally, Del and Charley grow suspicious of their new assistant, convinced she may be a serial killer after discovering that all the references on her resume are deceased.
