The 1950's (S02E03)

Tony transports us to the 1950s, a time often seen as a hopeful era of social and economic revival. It was a challenging yet fulfilling period for many. He starts by sharing the tale of Mary Powell, an Irish woman who fulfills her dream of becoming a nurse by joining the NHS. Despite facing strict matrons, grumpy consultants, and patients with serious ailments, Mary perseveres. She finds moments of freedom away from her nursing quarters for nights out, and even defies her parents by marrying her boyfriend.
