Emmett Ryker's close friend, shopkeeper John Conway (Jack Warden), is set to marry the lovely Rita Boland (Marilyn Erskine), whom he barely knows after meeting her in San Francisco. Once Rita arrives in Medicine Bow, tension arises as she appears reluctant to discuss starting a family, leading her to seek solace in alcohol, hinting at a troubled history. At the same time, Emmett faces his own demons when two brothers from the Garr family (John Milford and James Beck), whom he incarcerated for a robbery gone wrong, come looking for vengeance. The two seemingly unrelated stories converge in a dramatic confrontation.
