Feeling down about Yetta's impending marriage, Fran receives guidance from Dr. Miller to channel her energy into new endeavors. Inspired, she rekindles her aspiration of becoming a weather reporter and, with Sammy’s help—who happens to be Bryant Gumbel's uncle—Fran lands an audition for the role of editorial commentator on Public Eye. Concerned about Fran venturing out, Mr. Sheffield concocts a plan with Gracie to persuade her to abandon her new role. However, Fran unwittingly sabotages her own audition by confusing gene therapy with fashionable jeans. Meanwhile, Sylvia struggles with the idea of her future stepfather.
