Steven Rinella receives an invitation from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation to participate in an elk hunt during the rut in southeastern Kentucky's coal country, a region that was once traversed by his idol, Daniel Boone. This marks Steve's inaugural hunt for eastern elk, and he soon discovers that the dynamics of hunting here are quite distinct. Should he encounter one of these majestic creatures, he plans to cook what is believed to be Boone’s preferred dish: elk liver.
