Ten-year-old Maddie Harrington unexpectedly appears at Ally's doorstep claiming to be her daughter, the result of a mix-up from the egg bank where Ally donated her eggs a decade ago. Following the death of Maddie's father six months prior, she has been living with her aunt, a nightclub singer known for belting out TV theme songs. After some heartfelt discussions, Maddie opts to stay with Ally in Boston temporarily while they sort out her living arrangements. Meanwhile, Richard takes on the peculiar case of a man who accidentally killed his wife, mistaking her for a soccer ball during a kick. Despite John's doubts about winning the case due to litigation challenges, Richard surprises everyone by securing a victory.
