Lester brings on a young former convict, encouraged by Mary, and both are pleased with his performance. However, things take a turn when he asks Brenda out. The couple objects strongly and ultimately informs Mike that he can't date her. Feeling downcast, Mike contemplates skipping the GED test, believing he'll always be viewed as an ex-con. Just then, the real Joe Clark, known from "Lean on Me," appears and offers him some uplifting advice, inspiring Mike to go ahead with the test. The Jenkins later express their regrets for how they treated him.
