Vint, Naomi, and Bubba are gearing up for the Bowl-A-Thon, determined to break the Huflanders' eight-year winning streak. After Mama returns with Aunt Effie from Cousin Ludie's funeral, where they were the only attendees, she resolves not to let that happen to her. Mama starts planning her own funeral, even considering using the $1,200 set aside for a family trip to the Grand Canyon. Since Mama refuses to participate in the bowling event due to its cost, Vint, Naomi, and Bubba enlist Iola to take her place. Shortly after they leave, Mama gets an electric shock from a lamp and faints, slipping into a dream about her own funeral, where everyone leaves to go bowling.
