Lew Harrod arrives in Dodge searching for Doc Adams, only to discover that Doc is unavailable. Newly O'Brien steps in to assist but soon realizes that the child's mother is resistant to help. He urges the parents to take their baby to Dodge, but the mother objects to the medicine he proposes, and the father is a fugitive. The father is furious upon learning that Newly is a deputy. While Lew trusts Newly, his wife is wary of going to Dodge, fearing that Newly might bring back men to arrest her husband. Ultimately, Makesha decides to take the baby to her people after Newly asks them to go to Dodge, invoking the doctor’s oath to keep her husband’s identity safe.
