Cole and Mel head to a retreat designed to rekindle romance in marriages, all while on the hunt for a pair of telepathically linked Orsian convicts. Posing as a married couple proves challenging, especially when they must feign intimacy while trying to locate the criminals, who have cleverly scrambled Cole's tracking devices. With several suspects in the mix, Cole eventually traces them down, only to be knocked unconscious and discover it was all a trap to allow the convicts access to the Watchfire Bar to free Cole’s imprisoned lifeforce. With Mel’s assistance, Cole escapes and stops the convicts just in time. They both agree that they can't let romance distract them again.
