With the hotel nearly deserted and expenses mounting, Kate encourages Uncle Joe to secure a job. Although he pretends to search for work, Joe goes out of his way to avoid it. While taking a break in a vacant lot with Dog, they discover a can filled with cash buried in the ground. Joe, feeling guilty, decides not to share this news with Kate and secretly pays off her outstanding bills. Thrilled but unaware of the source, Kate is grateful. Soon, Joe learns the money likely belonged to the Crabwell Corners Bank and attempts to return it, only to find it has been unearthed by another dog.
