Sam and Joe discover that Bedloe is scrutinizing Wendell’s performance, hoping to justify replacing the Cannonball with a bus service, which would spell disaster for the Shady Rest as there's no road access to the hotel. Janet devises a plan to counter Bedloe's negativity through kindness, organizing a surprise birthday party for him. A cake sent from Granny to the Elliotts becomes a key element of her strategy. In a heartwarming conclusion, Charles Lane's final portrayal of Bedloe sees him abandon his mission to close the Cannonball.
