Malloy and Reed come across a private investigator from another state, who is in Los Angeles tracking down a bail jumper. Later, the PI finds himself in a confrontation with two Black men, one of whom is hurt. While the PI insists that he was trying to fend off an attempted robbery, the men provide a contrasting account, prompting Sgt. MacDonald to take the PI into custody. Eventually, the PI is discovered roughing up the bail jumper and is arrested. The day also includes calls from an elderly man upset about a group of hippies parked illegally, and a woman demanding the officers ticket her husband for not replacing his worn-out tires.
